How does it work?A report or reenactment of the crime is portrayed using community media resources; television, radio, and news print. Persons with information on the crime reported or any other felony crimes are urged to call Crime Stoppers.Police officers process information received on the tip line, and a code number is assigned to the tipster. Callers are instructed to call back frequently to find out if their information has earned a reward. While the investigative part of Crime Stoppers is undertaken by law enforcement agencies, the responsibility of establishing policy, for raising rewards funds, and for determining the amount of reward funds, and for determining the amount of reward payment rests with the Crime Stoppers Board of Directors, made up of citizens from the community.Who benefits? The Community - Citizens are involved. Crimes are solved. Stolen Property is recovered. Narcotics are confiscated. Criminals are placed behind bars. The program provides a safe crime free environment conducive to learning.Develops good leadership/citizenship skills in students for future community involvement.Provides an avenue to students for fulfilling the need to belong.Who funds it?Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers is funded solely by private tax-deductible donations of money, goods, or services from the community, including businesses, corporations, clubs, associations, retailers, and individuals. All expenses and air-time costs are absorbed by the corresponding media as a public service. How can I help?Contributions to the reward fund are needed on a continuous basis; the more successful the program, the greater the funds are necessary.
